Birthplace of Goddess of Love

Celebrate on the island of immortal mythic love, birthplace of Aphrodite, goddess of Beauty and Love.

Since Richard The Lionheart chose to marry his Queen, Berengaria in Cyprus, the island has always held a romantic attraction for betrothed couples. Convenient marriage laws and spectacular wedding locations make North Cyprus a truly great destination for the big days ahead.

Whether it be the party itself, or the getaway straight after, NCY has been an ever-flourishing destination for couples and wedding planners in recent years.

Legalities

Firstly, and most importantly, marriages in the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus are legal, accepted and recognised worldwide, so it doesn’t matter if you are from the UK, America, Canada, Russia or the rest of Europe, you can legally wed in NCY.

The law in North Cyprus is based primarily on English law which simplifies the whole marriage process, making it easier to understand and meaning that the wedding services and marital documents are all in the English Language.

There are certain legal requirements that have to be fulfilled for a wedding to take place which include the bride and groom to have stayed in TRNC for at least 6 days before their wedding, providing copies of passports and birth certificates, a form to be completed for submission to the District Officer and a decree absolute if previously married and subsequently divorced.

Venues

There are plenty of swanky 5-star hotels on the island that can cater for weddings and receptions and they will often have their own wedding co-ordinators that can help organise a wedding package to suit your budget.

Seaside, poolside, on a deck overlooking the Mediterranean, on the beach along the seashore or even tailor designed ballrooms for preferred indoor or winter events.

There are also some fantastic public venues such as the historical Bellapais Abbey offering one of the most memorable backdrops to any occasion.

The golf resort in Esentepe boasts breath-taking landscapes with the Besparmak Mountain Range and Mediterranean on either side of the luscious lawn.

If you prefer a traditional wedding, St. Andrew’s Anglican Church  in the heart of Kyrenia overlooking the castle and harbour can also be used as one of the many religious venues available. Churches may have certain stipulations to enable you to take your vows, so make sure you investigate these options before you commit.

Preparations

Whether you choose an independent wedding planner or make arrangements with the venue hosts, be sure you will find everything and much more than you can envisage – most of the planning induced stress will be alleviated.

The warmth of the local people who place marriage central to their local culture adds to the spirit of the occasion and relieves most of that unnecessary pressure off the bride and groom to be.

Bouquets and arrangements made from your own preference of flowers can be arranged from any number of florists in the major cities, with further options of customisation and enhancement. Wedding cakes can be ordered just a few days in advance from most bakeries, made to your own choice or selected from a standard design.

If you are looking for those all-important wedding rings, with jewellery shops dotting the high streets and tax-free shopping, it can be very cost effective to purchase your rings in NCY, and even add a more personal touch with some custom designing.

Turkish Cypriots are very weary of their visage, therefore it is no wonder you can find a hair and beauty salon on almost every street corner in town. If you intend to groom the whole family, you can book in advance for a stylist to come to your venue and spend the day by your sides.

To capture the special occasion you may want to organise a photographer or a cameraman to be on hand during the ceremony and reception to take those all-important pictures and scenes, and there are some very experienced professionals on the island at very reasonable rates.

If you are looking for live entertainment, musicians, orchestras, English speaking singers and artists as well as DJ’s, all talents are in abundance and easily found.

It may be a good idea to combine your hen and stag nights a few days before the wedding as well - pampering spa days, group nights out for dinner and raving at one of the best clubs in the Med, private boat trips or any other custom activities you can come up with to suit all the guests. Amongst the sunshine and stunningly panoramic backdrops, you can’t go too wrong whatever you do!

Packages

The most convenient and stress reduced preference is to go for a customised all-inclusive option, not restricted to the following:

Private car or horse-and-carriage for the Bride and Groom; Registration with champagne; Pre-Reception Cocktail Menus, Sit-Down Dinner Menus for the Wedding Breakfast, Wedding Buffets, Cakes & Dessert Selection; Bridal Flowers and Floral Decorations, Button Flowers for Groom and Guests; Live Music & Entertainment; After-Party Cocktails and a Fireworks Display; Photography & Videography.

Extravagant Weddings

Over the past few years, small and delicate wedding ceremonies have been held on the island, hosting 30 – 40 close family and friends in stylish surroundings, a popular choice for guests especially from the Middle East.

NCY has also put on the more renowned and lavish Indian family weddings, where the hosts have chartered parts of a resort, accommodation and facilities for a week and held a private celebration of festivities, from pre-wedding rituals to the main ceremony and reception.

Costs

With the average cost of a wedding in Europe averaging over 25,000, it’s no wonder that every year thousands of couples are looking to the warmer climes of the Mediterranean for their dream day.

A wedding in NCY can cost the bride and groom just a third of the budget of a similar wedding at home with the added incentive of a paradise location with almost perfect weather.

You will also be pleasantly surprised by how many of your friends and family make the trip to share in your dream wedding in the sun, often making a holiday of it themselves.

Honeymoon

If you’ve tied the knot overseas and you are looking for that ideal destination to let it all sink in, relax and continue with the post nuptial celebrations at the same time, North Cyprus offers a grand choice for newlyweds.

Book yourselves as the honeymoon couple into one of the many luxury hotels, all within reasonable budgets, and prepared to be spoilt. Upon checking into the “honeymoon suite” which will be decorated for the occasion, a generous welcome package will be awaiting you from the go.

From then on, pamper yourselves in one of the spa’s and wellbeing centres, whether it be far eastern therapeutic massage to a traditional Turkish ritual for cleansing the body, you will be feeling refreshed immediately.
