Hasan Kavizade Huseyin Efendi Fountain
Kyrenia
Situated in the quiet back streets of Kyrenia, this historic fountain is easily missed.
This square-shaped fountain with a barrel vault and reservoir is positioned southeast of the Agha Cafer Pasha Mosque.
Visitors of the mosque who pray complete their ablution using this fountain, fed from the natural spring.
The marble inscription below the three arches of the fountain tells us that it was constructed on 16th November 1841 during Hasan Kavizade Huseyin Efendi’s time.
In the middle arch a crescent, a coat of arms and branch figures are carved into the stonework.
The stone stairwells next to the fountain were built by the last Ottoman Provincial Governor, Cemal Bey and the last Ottoman Mayor, Abdul Efendi.
